Three Apps from QUINTIN QS: Better Information for a Better Life
Made in Ulster. Built to make useful information more accessible.
In Economic Possibilities for our Grandchildren, the economist John Maynard Keynes imagined a future in which people could live “wisely and agreeably and well.” That ambition provides a useful question for any new tool: does it help people make better decisions and use their time and money well?
That is the aim behind three apps developed by QUINTIN QS. There is an irony in offering them: they make some quantity surveying knowledge available for far less than engaging a QS directly. QUINTIN QS continues to provide professional services for projects needing individual measurement, advice and cost management. The apps give more people an affordable place to start.
ExtendIQ: Know the likely cost before you commit
ExtendIQ helps homeowners explore the likely cost of a house extension before commissioning drawings or seeking builder quotations. Enter the proposed size, region, specification and key features to see an indicative cost range. A more detailed cost report is available when needed.
An early budget helps a family shape its plans around what it can afford, before substantial time and money are committed.
SiteIQ: Get more from the journey
SiteIQ helps people discover what is happening in the places they travel through. Its free Townlands experience names the places along a journey. Scout Local adds community news and relevant planning updates, while Scout Pro offers more detailed property information for developers, agents and other professionals.
SiteIQ also gives fuel information as a user approaches a petrol filling station, with an alert around 250 metres before arrival. Users can compare unleaded petrol and road diesel prices and get directions to a station. Prices can change, so check the grade and price at the pump.
For anyone interested in a particular building, field or site, SiteIQ can check a Northern Ireland address or map pin for early planning, access, ground, flood, services and market clues. Set up Scout before driving and review details when safely stopped.
CPD: See what delay costs us all
CPD — Continued Prolonged Delays — follows major public infrastructure projects through its Northern Ireland dashboard and wider British Isles dashboard. It makes project progress, delays and changing costs easier for the public to examine.
Infrastructure affects the time people spend travelling, the services they can reach and the opportunities available to their communities. CPD helps keep attention on whether promised projects are being delivered.
A useful place to start
The three apps answer different questions: What might my extension cost? What is happening around me? What is happening to the public projects we depend on?
They put practical information into more people’s hands at a modest cost, with free ways to begin. When a project needs tailored professional work, QUINTIN QS remains available. The wider aim is simple: help people use their money, time and surroundings well and, in Keynes’s spirit, work towards a good life.
