To contain rising costs, given the tariffs being applied to GB sourced steel due to the possible final destination being the EU single market and demand generally, NI designers and contractors may need to consider alternative materials, review all elements containing steelwork, or ultimately, aim to design steel products out of their scheme.

Currently, the following are guide rates for small quantities steelwork (<5 Tn); galvanising £1,000 per tn, supply only steelwork £2,300/tn and lastly, supply and erect £3,100 /tn (Source: CASE Steelwork, Ards, Co. Down and 25% increase since March 2021)
