In Memory of Ciara Mageean

We were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Ciara Mageean on 1 November 2026, aged 34.

Born in Portaferry, Ciara became one of Ireland’s finest athletes. She was a two-time Olympian, held the Irish records over 800 metres, 1,500 metres and the mile, and was crowned European 1,500 metres champion in Rome in 2024.

For all she achieved, she never forgot where she came from. As she told the Irish News, “I feel so fortunate to be from a town like that.”

Our heartfelt condolences to her husband Thomas and to all who loved her.

May she rest in peace.
